Ready for Counseling?

“Should I go to counseling?” I hear this question a lot from my friends and family. I am a Mental Health Counselor and I will 100% of the time answer “Yes”.

I view counseling as a space for exploration, trying new ideas, challenging negative thoughts or self-talk, and changing dysfunctional and/or relationships patterns while not being rejected or abandoned. Counseling supports people who are struggling or holding on to different thoughts or beliefs from loved ones and society labels. Everyone wants a greater life.

Sometimes it might not be clear where to start or what to talk about. Before starting therapy, you might have certain ideas or expectations for how to be in therapy, such as disagreeing with the therapist or not asking many questions.
